Still Picking up the Pennies

The Bridge of Peace is the first book I have really enjoyed and could not put down in a long time! What a wonderful love story! I was so moved by the entire book. I am not Amish or know too much about the Amish ways of life, and that does not matter. If you enjoy good people winning in the end this book is for you! My favorite character was Lena, even with a birth mark on her face; she learned people that love her can see past her outside appearance. I would recommend this book to my pals. I love all the themed posted for certain days of the week on blogs. I have a thank you note to write and it is Thursday, so it seemed to go together :) I want to thank Crystal at Just another modest mom she had a New Year's giveaway and I won. I won a wonderful Bible for children. I received it in the mail on Monday. I sat down to read a story from it with my two boys 11, and 7 before bed on Monday. My boys kept asking for one more story, we ended up reading about 7 stories that night. Each night since they ask for more and more. Imagine children asking for more Bible stories, I am just delighted. I love this book and would recommend it to anyone with children. Thank you so much Crystal!

Today my boys had a half day of school, so I wanted to do something fun for the afternoon. The rules were we could not spend any money but could use some gas from the truck. So we decided on taking Mother nature up on her beauty she provided about 3 feet of new snow over the past week. We went sledding. My son is the one being pulled backup the hill in the blue and black jacket. We brought cocoa and hot dogs from home and invited a few cousins along and had a bonfire. This is a look down the hill. My crazy and one of my favorite sister in laws road down the hill together and nearly peed our pants laughing. It was a great day!!

This book contains two stories about two Janes. The first story of Jane is during modern time, she manages an antique shop and finds a ring. The second Lady Jane a historical figure who's story is told through the voice of her seamstress Lucy Day. The stories both relate to one another in the way that they seem to have been forced down certain paths in life, but later learn they are both responsible in similar ways for making their circumstances what they are. I have been following Laura's site at Heavenly Homemakers for a while now. I love her simple, yummy sounding recipes she posts! She is a true inspiration to me. Today my boys had a half day of school and they were not going to eat lunch at school. I wanted to make a fun lunch for them and remembered having a few hot dogs in the freezer and just got a corn bread Jiffy mix. So I did corndog muffins and they were a huge hit with all three of my boys, including DH! He even asked me to pack some in his lunch box!! YAY! Laura thank you for a great recipe!

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review. The Dragon and the Turtle I read this book to my two young sons, and we all really enjoyed the book. The story is about finding a new friend and helping him find his way home. The two main characters are very likable. Padraig is a dragon, who was hunting bugs. Roger is a turtle that has lost his way. The two become quick friends but also discover they have differences. I really like the fact that there is a Bible verse at the end of the book. My boys and I enjoyed talking about they story using some of the suggested topics. I have to add the illustrations are just remarkable.
